I have always loved The Lord of the Rings trilogy, the lore, the story, the action, the characters, all of it. But I especially love this quote. It is the hint of exposition for a longer journey, and it is something that I feel truly defines how I feel about my next steps going forward. That if I do not watch out, my feet will be swept off to who knows where.
Before we get to where I am going, let us look at where I have been. In my life I have done countless Theatre productions, orchestra concerts, choir concerts, extracurriculars, and so much much more. All of these things have shaped who I am today and what the future could possibly look like. Theatre has been something that I have truly come to love because of the ability to tell stories and truth along with collaborating with so many new and amazing people. It has been a great way of building the skills of pursuing community and what that looks like for me.
This collaboration with new artists allows for me to have so many new experiences with different worldviews and cultures and it excites me which each person I meet. In fact I am reminded of one of my most favorite shows I performed in the summer of 2017. I performed in the musical Hair, as Woof. This musical had me dive into so many new walks of life and explore what they might mean for me and my walk with God. It was one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences I have ever had the pleasure of being a part of. It taught me so much about myself and my relationship with God, and who I am today is due in large part to that experience.
This growth in my relationship with God then led me to what was next for me, and that was my leap of faith in doing something I never thought of doing. And that was spending ten weeks as an intern in Slovenia. And let me tell you. This was one of the best decisions I have ever made in my entire life and one that completely transformed my life. I discovered how I could serve God and His kingdom through that internship and that I must be looking to God in all things so that I may discern His will. Now, this does not come easily, but with much prayer and study.
With all of these life experiences I am excited for these next steps forward as my journey has already begun and will continue to go on. This blog’s purpose is for me to share my thoughts and extend an invitation for you to go along with me. For now the journey has started with us together and I hope that we may be able to take the path less traveled in community with one another. And with that I want to leave you with another gem from The Lord of the Rings:
J.R.R Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with weary feet,
Until it joins some larger way,
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.
The Road goes ever on and on
Out from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone.
Let others follow, if they can!
Let them a journey new begin.
But I at last with weary feet
Will turn towards the lighted inn,
My evening-rest and sleep to meet.”
And so we must go on, to take the Journey Onward.
